TROPIC FIESTA
The rollercoaster ride of events at NAFA 2023 kicked off with Tropic Fiesta, a sensational three-weekend extravaganza of live music. Co presented by QMUSIC and held at popular venues in Townsville, this celebration featured performances by local artists, country icons, and multi-platinum selling musicians including Pete Murray, Art vs Science, Lee Kernaghan, Bobby Aly, Donny Benet and Late November.
TROPIC SOUNDS
Reid Park was buzzing with excitement as Tropic Sounds made a triumphant return, bringing together an incredible lineup featuring Tones and I, ILLY, Pierce Brothers, Clews, DJ Dolly Llama, and talented local acts Ben Penna and Poison Oak.
THROUGH OUR EYES
In 2023, NAFA and Big Eye Theatre collaborated to bring forth the extraordinary event, Through Our Eyes.
This captivating event delved into the unique communication methods of the First Nations people of the East Coast of Australia. Through the mesmerizing combination of music, dance, and fire, the audience was transported into the rich storytelling traditions of these indigenous communities.
As they listened to the enchanting songs and witnessed the passing of firesticks from elders to the younger generation, they were reminded of the importance of preserving and strengthening our cultural heritage.
CORROBBOREE
NAFA once again hosted Corrobboree in Townsville, marking the events second consecutive year. The people of Townsville were thrilled by the mesmerising dance performances that showcased the rich cultural heritage of various groups within the Townsville region, spanning over 65,000 years.
POSE
During 2023, NAFA collaborated with The Wearable Art Creatives (WAC) to present POSE, an entertaining stage performance of wearable art that showcases the work of artists, designers, hair stylists and makeup artists.
POSE 2023 featured a selection of wearable artworks from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Project: People, Culture and Country, and Wearable Art Creatives.
The evening entertainment was enhanced with dance performances by Wulgurukaba Walkabouts, Big Eye Theatre, and Ulysses Dancers.
