PAST EVENT - THROUGH OUR EYES 2023

Presented by Big Eye Theatre

Description

"We are still here” is a story telling event in music, dance and fire that looks into how the First Nations people of the East Coast of Australia communicated to each other when this strange thing sailed by! “Have you ever wondered?”

From last years event, more stories have surfaced about other ships that sailed within the area. New stories were shared including the Ngaro (Whitsundays) and also stories from Juru (Bowen).

Specific to the city of Townsville First Nations peoples, the Wulgurukaba of Gurambilbarra (Townsville), Yunbenun People (Magnetic Island), Bindal (Cape Cleveland), Manbarra (South Townsville) and Bwgcolman (Palm Island) will be lighting fires at respective points on Wednesday 7 June. This signifies when the Endeavour sailed past 252 years ago.

People were able to listen to thought provoking stories which took place through song, dance and of elders passing the firestick to our youths to keep the fires burning and our culture strong.
